The Departments of Information & Knowledge Management at the University of Johannesburg, in conjunction with ESRI-South Africa, GISSA and the City of Johannesburg invite you to "Map your world through GIS".
GIS or 'Geographic Information System' relates to the computer software which allows one to auto- mate the process of producing and manipulating map layers in an easy-to-use environment. These layers can be used to produce high quality maps or they can be used to analyse geographic prob-lems. GIS as a 'spatial' decision making tool, is used worldwide by national and local governments, education, mining, energy and the business sector to mention a few.
In celebration of International GIS day and seeing that GIS has become part of the Grade 10-12 curriculum for Geography, GISSA approached the UJ and partners to offer teachers and learners an opportunity to learn more about GIS.
We encourage you and your Grade 10-12 learners to accept an invitation for 31 August or 1 Septem- ber 2010 to experience GIS in action.
