GIS WEEK 2007

HOSTED BY GISSA-WESTERN CAPE

AND THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION-WC.

GISSA-Western Cape is proud to announce that it will host the annual GIS Week for learners, educators and general public at the University of the Western Cape from 8 to 11 May 2007.

Since the annual International GIS Day (November) coincides with final school exams in South Africa, it was decided to accommodate schools during May in order to reach more learners and Geography educators.

Nature of the event:

Appointments will be made with different schools in order to facilitate bringing pupils to this event.  Interested schools (who are accidentally not invited) must please contact the organising committee in order to make a booking.

PUPILS AND TEACHERS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE FOLLOWING AT THE EXHIBITION

-        An introduction and explanatory session on GIS in the auditorium;

-        A hands-on session in the computer laboratory;

-          Visits to the exhibition area where different organisations will demonstrate and allow pupils to experience the wide application of GIS in our daily lives.
