PLATO Registration: Grandfather Clause is open and will close 31 May 2010

Notice is hereby given that the South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors (PLATO) has resolved to allow a further opportunity, for persons who feel that they may qualify for registration in terms of Section 20(2)(A) or Section 22(3) of Act 40 of 1984 (as amended by Act 170 of 1993), to apply for registration with the council.

All applications must the reach the registrar’s office on or before 31 May 2010. No applications received after this date will be considered.

The Act requires that the experience referred to in the above sections of the Act, for the various categories and disciplines, must be obtained prior to the dates listed in the Table below.
Applications must state clearly the category and discipline which is being applied for and must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • A schedule providing all the current contact details of and other relevant information pertaining to the applicant.
  • A certified copy of the applicant’s identity document.
  • A certified copy of the highest academic qualification attained.
  • An authenticated diary of the relevant experience gained prior to the respective date above.
  • Any additional information that the applicant may consider relevant
    including, references, testimonials and confirmation of managerial positions held.
  • A non-refundable application fee of R500 (five hundred rand).

If possible can you supply the list of the different Act's that is needed for the exams?

APPLICABLE LEGISLATION FOR LAW EXAM IN THE GISc CATEGORY


PAPER 1 - 2 hour duration (this is the same as for all categories)

a) Professional and Technical Surveyors Act, 1984 (Act No 40 of 1984), as amended : whole.

b) Rules in terms of Act 40 of 1984 : whole.


PAPER 2. 3 hour duration (in all cases the latest version of legislation must be used)

a) Spatial Data Infrastructure Act, 2003 (Act No 54 of 2003 : whole

b) Regulations in terms of Act 54 of 2003 : whole – once these are published, which is not yet.

c) Copyright Act, 1978 (Act No 98 of 1978), as amended : whole, excluding sections 8,9,10,14,16,17,18,28,31,32,33,34,38,40,42,45,46 and 47.

d) Legal Deposit Act, 1997 (Act No 54 of 1997), as amended : only sections 1,2,3,4,5,6,9 and 10.

e) National Archives of South Africa Act, 1996 (Act No 43 of 1996), as amended : only sections 1,3,11,12,13 and 14.

f) Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (Act No 2 of 2000) : whole.

g) SA Geographical Names Council Act, 1998 (Act No 118 of 1998), as amended : only sections 1,9 and 10.

h) Statistics Act, 1999 (Act No 6 of 1999) : only sections 1,3 and 17.

i) Electronic Communication and Transaction Act, 2002 (Act No 25 of 2002) :
only sections 1,2,11,12,14,20,42,43,44,45,46,50,51,53,54,55 and 56.
